Lyrics
SUMMERTIME (words by S. Wood)
By the riverside we would lie, I was hers and she was mine, in the summertime.
The days were long and the nights were short, it was love I was sure, in the summertime.
We were making love to the rhythm of the river, I come alive when she calls my name.
I’m your one night, one time, summertime lover, come on babe lets do it again.
Sweet tequila and homemade wine through the night she blew my mind, in the summertime.
My oh my babe how I’ve tried but I’ve never been up quite so high as in the summertime.
Down my spine she sends a shiver, I come alive when she calls my name.
I’ll never have another like my summertime lover, come on babe lets slip away, into the summertime.
When she spoke to me she spoke of love, I dreamed of her and the stars above, in the summertime.
But with the autumn rain she slipped away, I’ve never seen her face since that day, in the summertime.
HARMONY (words by A. Baird)
Speak to me,
Speak to you.
Dance about.
Dance about and shout.
Let your body move,
Let your body move.
TO the sounds Of the easy groove,
Speak to me.
Harmony, gives me a sense of unity.
Harmony. now I deal With sensibility.
Harmony, people all around can you see.
When you give you create harmony.
Live today, live, dance, play, so frequently.
Live today, but you must realize candidly.
Live today. we poison the earth so shamelessly.
Tomorrow becomes possibility,
Tomorrow is just possibility.
A song that doesn’t need a name,
Keeps me happy just the same.
I want to live to see tomorrow.
But ahead there lies so much sorrow.
I want to smile through sunny days.
And help to sweep the junk away.
SO tired Of swimming in dirty seas,
Now we see what the answer has to be.
All get together in harmony,
Sing a song. hear me now, hear and feel the song.
APPLE TREES (words by J. Webster)
Always saying all these things about your pride.
Always playing, and now look at you, your nationwide.
Why don’t you come make love with me under the apple trees.
Gimme some apple trees, that’s where I want to be.
ALL BECAUSE OF YOU (words by J. Webster)
The sparkle in your eye,
makes me sit and wonder.
To offer how I feel
and make my world feel younger.
I opened up my eyes and now it’s time I realize,
Let’s put our worries aside and let our worlds collide.
It started with the stars,
and the full moon flower.
I opened up my eyes and much to my surprise,
I ain’t feeling like I used to.
Now I’m laughing at the rain,
and I ain’t got no worries.
Cause my heart has opened wider,
oh man, you’ve got to see her.
I opened up my eyes and much to my surprise,
I ain’t feeling like I used to,
and it’s all because of you.
INTO THE LIGHT (words by S. Wood)
There are no words I can tell you,
I can’t tell you how I feel.
There are so many things about you
that turn me on.
so take my hand and let me show you
I want to show you what I mean.
I only want just to know you,
You’re the only one, you’re the only woman
that really loves me.
TOO many times, too many others,
too many others let me down.
TOO many lies, too many lovers
have come and gone,
You’re the only woman that really moves me.
Have I been sleeping for all of this time.
I feel like I only just opened my eyes.
Stepped out Of darkness and into the light.
Have I been dreaming, I must be blind.
You’ve been standing right in front of my eyes.
I only want to bring you right back to the light,
back to the light.
RIDING HIGH (words by S. Wood)
Little rock and rollers with you crazy dreams
what kind of love have you found?
Sweet ambrosia did she set you free
when all those dreams came tumbling down?
We were rolling down that highway,
we were rolling on a dream.
Always chasing tomorrow, I swear we’d never sleep.
Our hearts were on fire.
We could only get higher.
We were riding high.
In days gone by we used to play for free,
we ain’t got time for that now.
Sweet lovechild it’s the night you steal,
you never let them down.
We were running down that highway,
we were running on a dream.
We had passion by our sides, and desire at the wheel.
Our hearts were on fire.
We could only get higher.
We were riding high.
ANOTHER DAY (words by A. Baird)
Another spill off Morocco’s coast,
Of its size and magnitude they can boast.
As it spreads even further like a black ghost,
Of the death and destruction it will be the most.
The Amazon jungle is going up in smoke,
Because Brazil is busted and yes it’s broke.
Breaks for business screw the common folk,
Oh my god, what a cruel joke.
Another day, won’t you look around,
Another day, won’t you look around,
Another day, won’t you look around,
It’s safe to say soon we won’t be around.
Summer gets longer see the greenhouse effect,
Aerosols have a traumatic effect.
Our ozone and atmosphere full of defects,
Our time grows shorter, still we show no respect.
A toxic landfill not far from here,
You can see it glow when the night is clear.
Hope you do not hold that land dear,
As you cannot use it for many years.
The land is barren and dead over there,
Strip miners came and left it bare.
It has no use, they have no care,
Did you know, were you aware?
A world of green becomes a world of black,
Ideals and morals are out of whack.
Concerns for tomorrow, concern we lack,
Reach the point soon we cannot turn back.
What we need is another way,
Our tomorrow won’t become today.
FOOL IN LOVE (words by S. Wood)
Everybody told me, but I wouldn’t listen,
I was a fool in love.
A hopeless romantic caught in a daydream,
It can be so easy to lose touch.
When everything is turning around,
And you’re losing all the love that you found
Can’t find the strength within yourself.
Well, look at me, I’m doing all right,
I guess I made it through somehow.
Got my eyes set on a new sight,
It can be so easy to want too much.
If you listen to the sound,
You will find out that love is all around.
That’s how I got my feet back on the ground,
And I found all the strength within myself.
You used to say that you would never give in,
but you were a fool for love, everybody’s love.
I used to be so uncertain,
It can be hard to say goodbye.
When all is said and done, memories still linger,
But I will move on, and look at my bright future,
You can’t relive a love that’s gone.
For a while you hand me down,
but I wouldn’t fall over and I stood my ground,
You did your best to knock me around,
But I wouldn’t fall over I stood my ground
I’m still standing, I’m still standing,
Standing on ground.
I was stranded in the lost and found,
But I got myself together and made it out.
You had me standing on shaking ground,
but I only got wiser and I made it through somehow.
I’m still standing.
ROOTIN’ TOOTIN’ (words by S. wood)
I’ve got a girl with a heart of gold,
And she loves me so I’m told.
I’ve got a girl with a heart of gold.
Best little woman I ever did know.
Any old time, any old time.
Any old time she tells me she’s mine.
I’ve got a girl with a heart of glass,
Best little woman in her class.
I’ve got a girl with a heart of glass,
Oh, lord, what a piece of ass.

Biography
Joe Post and Sunny Wood met in 1985 at Ideal, an alternative school for misfits. Sunny, with his motorcycle, feathered mullet, and love for Santana and metal, found an instant bond with Joe, who rocked baggy shorts, a wallet chain, and a skateboard. You could say this was the moment the sound of Second Nature was born – except neither of them could play a note of music yet.
That didn’t last long. A few months at Ideal, surrounded by some of the coolest young musicians in Vancouver (including members of Slow and Big Sugar), was all it took for them to pick up bass and guitar. Not long after, the band came together. All of the boys in the band were born in 1969, connected by Kits High and Ideal School.
The Lineup:
Julian Webster – Guitar, Vocals
Sunny Wood – Guitar, Vocals
Joe Post – Bass, Vocals
Ain Baird – Keys, Vocals
Kris Ledrew – Percussion, Vocals
Peter Martin – Drums
Apple Jensen – Vocals
Apple Jensen and Sunny Wood had grown up together in a rock and roll hippie tribe with the band Brain Damage.
Second Nature quickly gained momentum in Vancouver’s live music scene. By the late 80s, they were selling out some of the city’s biggest venues, including the Commodore Ballroom and Town Pump.
The early 90s were a magical time for Vancouver’s music scene, with unwavering support for live bands. Second Nature thrived in this golden era, headlining countless shows with incredible acts like The Grames Brothers, She Stole My Beer, The Harvesters, and Omniball.
To this day, everyone in Second Nature remains close. Though the band is now spread from Hawaii to Nelson, BC, the bond remains unbroken.
And when the time is right, Second Nature will take the stage together once again.
